In Asia Wednesday Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index sank 1.4% and China’s Shanghai Composite Index retreated 1% as investors await news that Beijing could raise interest rates as soon as this weekend. In Japan the Nikkei 225 Index rose 0.9%.
