Amtrak set an annual ridership record of 28.7 million passengers for the fiscal year ended September 30. That’s 5.7% more than in fiscal 2009.

Ticket revenue rose 9% to $1.74 billion, Amtrak said in a statement.

Attorneys General May Launch Foreclosure Investigation

Attorneys general in dozens of states plan to launch a joint probe into charges that banks used bogus paperwork to evict borrowers from their homes.

The investigation will go after charges that lenders including GMAC, JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Bank of America (BAC) forged documents and faked social security numbers in order to foreclose on homes, The New York Post said.

Treasury Announces $1.5 Billion Small Business Package

The Treasury Department announced a $1.5 billion lending package to boost small businesses at the state level.

The money will be available to states that can demonstrate that they will generate $10 in new private lending for every dollar of federal funds they receive, Reuters said. This could create a package worth a total of $15 billion.
